About us
weCARE, created on the 1st February 2019, is an Alliance pooling existing NGO type organizations that share and foster weCARE’s objective and fully adhere to weCARE’s founding declaration:
weCARE Founding Declaration: weCARE…
weCARE Founding Declaration: weCARE…
- Declares full adherence to the need to have an all-inclusive very low carbon energy target for the European Union. All-inclusive means using both Renewable Energy Sources and Nuclear Energy. It also means limiting carbon emissions by the use of fossil fuels to the maximum extent as soon as possible, avoiding any lock-in of fossil fuel technologies leading to long term carbon emitting stranded assets.
- Declares that for the energy mix to be sustainable for society, it also needs to be affordable for people and compatible with a competitive economy, while ensuring a high reliability of supply.
- Declares that Energy Market Designs, Energy Efficiency and Demand Side Management have to be further developed while keeping in mind the welfare of the European people and the overall competitiveness of the European society in the global world, today and tomorrow.
Each weCARE Member Organization keeps its own activities and procedures, but agrees to share information and documents within the weCARE Alliance, and to contribute to the interaction with the EU Institutions, in order to pro-actively promote a Europe-wide “all-inclusive low carbon energy mix”, which is also affordable and reliable, and therefore sustainable for society. Examples of such interactions can consist of, among others, taking part in Public Consultations related to the EU Climate and Energy Policies, participating actively in related Events and interacting with Members or Representatives of the EU Institutions...
A Steering Committee, consisting of representatives nominated by the Member Organizations, oversees weCARE activities. Details of the operation of the Steering Committee are provided in the weCARE Charter.
Acceptance of new Member Organizations will be considered by the Steering Committee taking into account and evaluating their alignment with weCARE’s main objective and founding declaration, and their commitment to actively contribute to weCARE’s activities.
The Steering Committee can also decide, on a case by case basis, to link weCARE with Associate Organisations, as long as they share and help to achieve the main objective of weCARE. Examples of such organizations are Scientific Societies, Regional and Local Communities, Think Tanks, Energy Workers Representations,… that promote an all-inclusive low carbon energy mix to help reduce greenhouse gas emissions and limit climate change, while also considering the economics and the reliability of supply.
An Advisory Committee, consisting of high level personalities, mainly with political or academic background, contributes to weCARE’s activities, and in particular provides advice to strengthen the credibility of weCARE and assists in the interaction with members and representatives of the EU Institutions.
